[Sir Alf Ramsey Returns to Portman Road]
1977 , Ipswich (Suffolk)
Cat no. 206793
Anglia Television report on the return of an Ipswich Town and England legend.
Sacked by the Football Association after eleven years as England manager, including the World Cup triumph of 1966, Sir Alf Ramsey returns to club football as a member of the board of directors for Birmingham City Football Club. And with Birmingham travelling to Portman Road for a match against Ipswich Town, Ramsey returns to the club he elevated from the third division to a first division premiership in 1961-62. Taking a seat in the directors box ahead of the match, Ramsey sees his new club dealt a heavy blow, with a struggling Birmingham suffering at the hands of a buoyant Ipswich squad to the cheers of a jubilant crowd.
