Country Policeman

1960 , Wrentham (Suffolk)

Anglia Television production; A day in the life of Suffolk country policeman, Constable Barber, on the beat in the village of Wrentham.

Off duty, Constable Barber leisurely tends to his garden allotment. On the beat, however, even for a country policeman, there is much work to be done. The Constable visits a pig farm, to check the farmer’s paperwork. He visits a primary school to check the road safety of the pupil’s bicycles, and later, passing along a country lane, catches a pheasant poacher red-handed. Anglia Television’s regular commentator Dick Joice interviews this ‘jolly nice chap’ who polices the village of Wrentham in Suffolk, and we see Police Constable Barber performing the many and varied duties of a village copper. An Anglia TV production, televised 1960.
