Anglia Television documentary featuring the stall-holders and visitors to Norwich Market.

Opening with a sweeping aerial view of Norwich, the city’s cathedral and castle are prominent, as are the stall covers (or tilts as they are called) on the famous Market Place situated in the centre along Gentleman’s Walk. On the ground, the many market trader’s work activities such as unpacking fruit produce, are seen and imperial methods of weighing produce and pricing is witnessed as sales are made. Interviews with stall-holders reveal the disadvantages and benefits of their chosen occupation, whilst the expertise and particular sales patter of one market trader at “Gordons” stall is featured, as he attempts to sell his home textiles. Dick Graham interviews the Clerk of the Markets, Mr Pointer, about administration matters, and further interviews with shoppers reveal their opinions of the pros and cons of shop versus market buying.
