Anglia Television news report on the progress of The Northampton Development Corporation’s expansion campaign, in its tenth year.

Aerial views of Northampton, a new town that has for ten years been following an expansion campaign instigated by the Northampton Development Corporation (NDC). Anglia correspondent Greg Barnes reports on some of the activities of the Corporation, including its work in the music industry, having produced and released a science fiction themed pop record, “Energy in Northampton”, performed by Linda Jardim. Shots of a Northampton industrial complex are shown against the background music of this quirky and catchy tune, yet to make it into the official UK charts. A member of the board discusses why the Corporation have turned to music production, an unlikely method of attracting industry to the town, and how successful the campaign has actually been. Aerial views of the factories and warehouses that have emerged as part of the expansion scheme in Northampton, including the headquarters of Danish lager brewers Carlsberg. Mike Iuul, Managing Director of Carlsberg UK explains why Carlsberg chose to set up its UK headquarters in Northampton in particular, arguing its central location, and water suitable for lager brewing. As industry has grown, so too has the town’s population and therefore housing developments. Tony & Rita Byfield, originally from London, have settled in the area, and explain what they like about Northampton.
