New Odeon Cinema To Open Soon

1971 , Norwich (Norfolk)

Anglia Television report on Norwich's new Odeon Cinema.

The newly built Odeon Cinema in Anglia Square sits amongst building sites and car parks, a contrast to the old Odeon, a large 2,000 seat screen on nearby Botolph Street. Views inside the new projection booth, the cinema foyers and auditorium interiors (including disabled access) is followed by an interview with the cinema manager. Despite the profitability of the old cinema, the manager discusses the need for a new cinema and its prospects. Also covered is the increase in ticket prices, including luxury seating priced at 75p, which the interviewer claims is close to prices in London's West End. The item concludes with another shot of the old Odeon and a souvenir programme from its opening in February 1938 when the British musical comedy 'The Sky's The Limit' topped the bill, which is contrasted by the marquee of the new cinema, advertising Burt Lancaster in 'Valdez is Coming'.
