1961 , Amman, Jordan (Other)

An ITN news report on the wedding of King Hussein of Jordan and his British bride.

King Hussein of Jordan and Suffolk-born Antoinette 'Toni' Gardner are married in Amman, (having met through Gardner's father, who served Hussein as a military advisor.) After the ceremony, the couple emerge on the steps of a royal palace. Hussein is dressed in his military uniform and Gardner in traditional white, the couple are greeted with spontaneous applause from the crowds. Having posed for photographs, Hussein gives a brief statement to the waiting media before the newly weds climb into a convertible car and embark on a royal motorcade. Passing through the streets of Amman, which are crowded with well-wishers, they arrive at the King's country residence, where they will spend their honeymoon.
