Background Information

Ove Fundin (born 23 May 1933) is a Swedish former speedway rider who won the Speedway World Championship Final five times (1956, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1967). He joined the Norwich Stars, riding for them from 1955 until 1964 when the Firs stadium closed. Fundin was honoured as a Freeman of the City of Norwich in 2006. The winner of the Golden Helmet Match Race Championship was awarded a golden helmet with wings, designed to fit over a crash helmet until larger 'space helmet' styles made this impractical.
