Report on the damage to the pier at Clacton
The film opens with silent aerial shots from a small plane show the remnants of the pier at Hunstanton after fierce winter storms damaged it significantly. On the beach at Clacton, Paul Barnes reports on the history of the British pier. Piers at Hunstanton, Skegness and Margate were destroyed by the tide the week before. The camera pans to show a close up of the damage done to Clacton pier. Barnes interviews Michael Goss, who says it reminded him of the storm of 1953. He says the damage is not as bad as he anticipated, leaving a lot of the pier open for business. He promises to be open on March 5th.
