Old Fashioned Bakery

1961 , Norwich (Norfolk)

An ‘About Anglia’ item showing bread-making activity at C.W. Pointer’s Bakery.

At C.W. Pointer’s Bakery on Philadelphia Lane, a man and woman – possibly Mr and Mrs Pointer - work together, preparing a variety of bread loaves for baking. The woman cuts the dough into portions and weighs each section, before the man kneads the dough and puts it into baking tins. The specialised technique of moulding dough into a specific shape or pattern is shown. Bread ovens are prepared, and loaves are loaded. The dough mixing machine is set to work, and the loaves are removed from the oven and displayed in the shop front. A customer buys a loaf of freshly baked bread.
