Waiters Race and Waitress Competition

1960 , Cromer (Norfolk)

Anglia Television report on unusual competitions in Cromer.

Residents and holiday-makers line the streets of Cromer awaiting the start of the annual Waiters Race. With a pop of the champagne cork, the Mayor of Cromer gets proceedings underway, as local waiters hurry to fill a drinks order, load their trays and race around the church. Following the race, a beauty parade for waitresses is held, with entrant no. 108, Freda Greenwood, voted most attractive and presented with a trophy and sash. After the presentations, Anglia Television correspondent Doug Geddes interviews Albert Harvey, the winner of the Waiters Race.
