1961 , Raynham (Norfolk)
Cat no. 114705
Anglia Television report on a traditional Boxing Day fox hunt.
Spectators and members of the West Norfolk Hunt have assembled at the 17th century Raynham Hall, where they are greeted by the Marquess and Marchioness of Townshend ahead of the traditional Boxing Day fox hunt. With the hunt start delayed by ground frost, Anglia Television correspondent Newman Sanders interviews the Master of Hounds, Capt. T. M. Barclay, who talks about the history of the West Norfolk Hunt, which begun in 1534 and is one of the oldest in the country. Barclay also discusses the size of this years contingent of hounds and followers, and the prospect of hunting given the treacherous conditions. After an interview with a visiting Texan, who has come to spectate with English friends, the crowd disperses and the hunt finally begins with a blast of Barclay's horn.
