Interview With Colin Milburn About The Benson & Hedges Match Between Essex And Northampton

1980 , Essex (County)

Anglia TV's Sports reporter interviews Essex and Northampton cricketers in the lead up to the Benson & Hedges final in 1980.

A photo is taken of the Essex cricket team, with close ups of the Essex emblem on their jumpers. Peter Willey is interviewed saying they have had a very good year, winning all of their Benson and Hedges matches and only losing 2 out of 8 or 9 matches in the Sunday League. Colin Milburn coaches young boys how to play cricket at Butlins Holiday Camp. One boy is being taught how to pitch and the other how to bat while Colin shouts instructions. Colin talks to Anglia TV's Sports reporter Gerry Harrison about teaching the children and how many he teaches, saying that on a nice day they would rather be by the pool or the beach. They discuss the Benson and Hedges final by the pool, with a fountain being shown behind Colin. He tells the interviewer that Northampton have the best first 5 batsmen in the country. He discusses the players on each team, saying that Allan Lamb is a world class player. Allan Lamb is then interviewed talking about the atmosphere of the matches and how well he’s done in each. Back to Colin, he singles out Graham Gooch and Ken McEwan as the best Essex players. Graham Gooch is shown batting and Ken McEwan is shown practicing in nets when they are each mentioned. Colin gives the overall batting edge to Northampton and the bowling edge to Essex. He ends the interview saying he fancies Essex to win but deep down hopes that Northampton will.
