[Polish Princess Works as a Level Crossing Gate-Keeper]
1961 , Long Melford (Suffolk)
Cat no. 98971
Anglia Television report on a Polish Princess waiting for her inheritance.
The Rodbridge level crossing on the branch line between Long Melford and Bury St Edmunds is staffed by a Polish Princess, Madeline Von Dembinska. A fully paid-up member of the National Union of Railwaymen, the Princess claims to be descended from the Royal House of Poland, and lives in the crossing cottage with her brother, the Prince. Interviewed by an Anglia Television correspondent, she talks about her role as railway crossing gate-keeper and her previous life renovating old cottages, the proceeds of which were spent 'poking about in her pedigree'. Claiming royal lineage through her father, she estimates that she is due an inheritance of approximately £20 million.
