Anglia TV news interview with Archie Macaulay who has resigned as Manager of Norwich City Football Club.

Anglia Television reporter Newman Sanders interviews Archie Macaulay, asking him why he wants to leave Norwich City Football Club. Macaulay says the decision to resign as manager is in his and the club's best interest. There were other contributory factors which led to his decision to leave but he doesn’t wish to discuss them in detail as it would be unwise of him to do so. When asked how the directors feel about him leaving, Macaulay says the chairmen have expressed their regret. He regrets leaving as Norwich City are a great bunch of players and if they get encouragement they can still get to First Division. He doesn’t know who will take his place but they are taking over the club in a much better position than when he took over. Macaulay ends the interview by talking about the injuries that have disrupted the team’s rhythm, even though he has managed to get some rhythm out of the team.

Background Information

Archibald Renwick "Archie" Macaulay (30 July 1915 – 10 June 1993) was a Scottish football player and manager. In 1957 he succeeded Tom Parker as manager of Norwich City, where he led the Third Division side to the FA Cup semi-finals in 1959 in one of the most famous FA Cup runs of all time, and promotion to the Second Division the following year. In 1961 he moved on to West Bromwich Albion. "Sandy" Newman Sanders was one of Anglia TV's first newscasters.
