The Goodies on Stage at The Arts Theatre, Cambridge

1978 , Cambridge (Cambridgeshire)

Anglia Television report on a theatrical detour for two members of The Goodies.

Paul Barnes reports from Cambridge, where two thirds of television sensations The Goodies are returning to their Footlights roots for a production of Royce Ryton's play The Unvarnished Truth at the Arts Theatre. Walking through the streets of Cambridge, Tim Brooke-Taylor discusses memories of studying at Cambridge University and the pedigree of the play, which also stars Jo Kendall. Faced with the danger that they might 'Goodie-fy' the play, Brooke-Taylor claims it is up to them to ensure it doesn't happen and Graeme Garden adds that they are 'trying to approach it as actors rather than as personalities'. Having highlighted the sometimes detrimental co-mingling of theatre and television and the notable absence of the third Goodie, Bill Oddie - who has been researching a book in Australia - the report concludes with Barnes, Brooke-Taylor and Garden discussing the nature of the play whilst walking backwards.
