Views of the area around Norwich Castle subject to a major planning proposal for a shopping mall.

Scenes of Norwich Cattle Market car park and the surrounding area including La Rouen pub on Farmers Avenue and the Eastern Counties Newspapers building. Views of planners’ models showing proposals for development of the area to create a shopping and leisure centre. At the car park, Anglia Television reporter John Kiddey says that the cost of the project is thought to be around £25 million, with that expense borne by the developers. Norwich City Council would receive ground rent for those parts of the site which it owns. This video was made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.

The idea of developing the site near Norwich Castle for a shopping centre originated in the 1970s, with a proposal based on an underground connection towards Norwich Market and Castle Meadow accepted in the 1980s.
