Request that Bedfordshire schools serve halal meat at school meals.
This report includes scenes of meat joints on display and a butcher skinning a chicken and chopping up meat. Community leaders are concerned that children from the 20,000 Muslim population in Luton are missing out in their nutrition because halal meat is not provided to Bedfordshire schools and they cannot eat the non-halal meat which is served. They are asking for the ritually-prepared meat be available for schools with a high Muslim population, such as The Beeches and Denbigh High. Akbar Dad Khan of the Pakistani Welfare Association says this can be provided at no extra cost, and all the children could eat the same meat. Bradford City Council has already adopted a policy to supply halal meat, but Bedfordshire is still considering the proposal. The reporter was Owen Spencer-Thomas for this video made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
