News report on the launch of a campaign against the deportation of the leader of the Kashmir Liberation Front living in the UK.
Anglia Television news report on Amanullah Khan, Leader of the Kashmir Liberation Front based in Luton. He was recently acquitted on charges concerning potential bomb making equipment, but immediately re-arrested and is now held in Bedford Gaol facing deportation. A photograph of Amanullah Khan is followed by the cover of a book, ‘The Tragedy of Kashmir’, and views of Kashmir House in Luton where Amanullah Khan had been living. Since arriving in the UK in 1976 he has been campaigning for the independence of Kashmir. Zafar Khan of the Kashmir Liberation Front says that the court case and rearrest have strengthened their resolve in this political and diplomatic struggle. Amanullah Khan’s campaigning will be curtailed if he is deported, and he could be arrested in Kashmir. A group of Kashmiri community leaders are seen as they launch a national campaign for release of Mr Khan. They enter the gate to visit Bedford prison. The reporter states the view of the Home Office that the presence of Mr Khan in the UK is not conducive to the public good and he is a threat to national security. Though not convicted, he will have no right of appeal. The report ends with the same photograph of Amanullah Khan.
