Launch of "Give As You Earn" charitable donation scheme for employees.

Conservative MP for Peterborough Dr Brian Mawhinney describes the new charity scheme “Give As You Earn” and how it will work in a local community context. He explains that it will channel employees’ contributions to specific named charities, or to four general charities operating with the health authority in the local area. As examples he mentions a project providing care for the dying, and a hospital at home scheme pioneered in Peterborough. An employee can donate up to £100 a year tax free. Anglia TV reporter Owen Spencer-Thomas asks if this might be an admission that the government is not giving adequate support to health services. Dr Mawhinney denies this, saying that funding to health services in Peterborough has risen 40% in real terms under the current government. The aim of the new scheme is to enable Peterborough people to help Peterborough people. This video was made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
