Young designers who imagined a children’s play area get to try it out at the opening event.

Two girls have their winning idea for children’s play spaces made real by Rochford Council in Essex which will base future parks on the girls’ design. Sally Davies and Felicity Miles from Sevenoaks in Kent won a competition in the ITV “Wide Awake Club” television programme. The girls arrive in the mayoral car as guests of honour for the opening ceremony of the first park at Rayleigh. After a shot of their original design, they are asked how they feel on seeing their plan made real. They say a few things are missing as yet - the bouncy monkey walk and the garden for Mums and Dads. They try out some of the rides and activities. Might they be interested in a career in design? Trevor Brooking, Chair of the Eastern Region Sports Council welcomes the innovation, mentioning football hooliganism and the need to keep young people engaged and interested. The reporter was Alastair Yates for this video made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
