Report on concerns for Libyan students on courses in Northamptonshire following the Libyan Embassy siege in London.

A report on arrangements for the safety of 80 Libyan students at colleges in Northamptonshire following the Libyan embassy shooting and siege in London. Students from Libya are taking courses sponsored by British Telecom and British Steel attracted by Northamptonshire’s technology centres. Anglia Television reporter John Kiddey reports outside Nene College Student Union which is offering protection to students. The college authorities are not aware of the students’ political allegiances, but the reporter suggests that anti-Gaddafi sentiment would likely be reported back to the Libyan capital Tripoli by pro-government agents. Diplomatic relations between Libyan and the United Kingdom broke down after Libyan diplomats were accused in the killing of Yvonne Fletcher, a British policewoman stationed outside the Libyan embassy in London in April 1984. After an 11-day siege of the embassy, those inside were expelled from the UK.
