Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands War Weapons Week
1941 , Aspley Guise (Bedfordshire)
Cat no. 1702
Documentation of wartime fundraising efforts in the Bedfordshire village of Aspley Guise.
The Bedfordshire village of Aspley Guise stages a week of events to raise money for the war effort, beginning with the erection in The Square of a fundraising barometer adorned with flags and bunting. Home guard cadets are shown running through drills before setting out on a parade through the village, and a children's costume parade is filmed in colour. A podium is erected ahead of the day's events which begin with a town parade featuring marching bands, soldiers, home guard volunteers and community groups, followed by races and games and a charity cricket match featuring one team dressed in top hats and the other wearing artillery helmets.
