An early colour film of the 1935 Walton-on-the-Naze carnival
The first of these two films is shot in Kodacolor. It shows the 1935 Walton-on-the-Naze Carnival from a fixed high angle camera position as it passes along the sea front. There are floats and people in fancy dress. Crowds line the route and, for the period, there are many cars parked. The main feature is a 'Pageant Of Transport.' This begins with a chariot and shows many other horse-drawn vehicles, including a stage coach and a hansom cab. There are many forms of motorised transport shown and there is an aeroplane on a float. The crowds break up and the final shot is of the paddle steamer docked at the end on the pier. The second film is a short black and white sequence showing the 1935 Lifeboat Procession at Walton-on-the-Naze. Floats pass along a residential street. This parade has a nautical theme; most of the floats depicting something to do with boating.
