Rayleigh, Essex from c.1900 to c.1960.
Shots of the town showing traffic, cars and buses, a zebra crossing, the Church and shots of the town centre. Aerial shots of the town, some taken from the church tower, show views of the town and the surrounding countryside. There are black and white stills of the town c. 1900. These are contrasted with colour film showing the same scenes c. 1960. A lengthy sequence intercuts traffic scenes with shots of various road signs. There is a still of some houses and then modern film showing the same houses, now in a busy area. The film shows Love Lane. A still of London Hill is followed by film of the same location, now part of the town whereas it had appeared rural.
