BBC Look East profile of the Suffolk coastal village of Orford.
BBC East correspondent Jean Goodman presents a portrait of the Suffolk coastal village of Orford. At its best when the holiday season is over and the village returns to looking how it has for centuries, its old world charm serves as the birthplace for David Copperfield in a serialisation for BBC One. Goodman samples the local industry, where Richard Pinney produces a variety of seafood products from his smokehouse and a newly established oyster farm in Butley Creek, which returns Orford to it's former position at the forefront of oyster production. Goodman also speaks to Suffolk writer John Burke, who explains the story behind Pinney's company logo, the mysterious Orford Merman, who was caught in a net by fishermen and held captive in Orford Castle until he escaped, never to reappear. Burke also talks about the history of Orford Church and its links to Suffolk composer Benjamin Britten.
