Views of Newmarket from the shops to the race-track.
A shot of the town sign and the county sign a few yards along the road. There are early indications that Newmarket is a town dominated by horses as they are filmed using their crossing over Bury Road. A postman follows them on his bicycle. There are shots of horses on Newmarket Heath near the Gallops. They cross over the Bury Road again and are filmed proceeding along the pavement. There is a close-up shot of a horse's head on the gatepost of The Gables. A milkman is filmed on his rounds. The next sequence moves into the town centre and films the market setting up. There are interior scenes of several shops. These include the Newmarket Shooting Supplies, an estate agents and Hobbs Hardware Shop. There are also scenes of a jumble sale on behalf of the Salvation Army. A traffic warden, Eric Dunning, and a postman are filmed at work. There are exterior shots of the TSB showing someone using the automated cash machine. At the British Bloodstock Agency a horse is filmed being washed and then dried under infra red lights. Back in the town centre there is a shot of a garage forecourt near the Clock Tower. The cameraman proceeds along High Street, looking in shop windows. There are interior scenes from Kitchin & Things, a fish and chip shop and The Pork Shop, makers of the celebrated Newmarket sausage. The cameraman moves into the Rookery Shopping Centre and there are scenes of this. There are interior shots of Gibson's Saddlers. There are shots of Newmarket railway station, on the Cambridge to Ipswich line. A passenger boards a train. Back in the town centre at the other end of the High Street, there is an exterior shot of Celebrities Night Club in the building that was the Doric cinema. There is a close-up shot of the Forthcoming Attractions Board. This includes, Adonis - The Men Of The World, a troop of male strippers. The next sequence films a race meeting. Police are on duty at the entrance. There are scenes of the racecourse that include shots of the on-course bookies. The race is shown on a large screen. There are shots of a race and of horses in the paddock. Lester Piggot mounts a horse. There are shots of people queuing at the Tote and of the car park. The final sequence shows scenes of The Houghton Sales (Yearlings) at Tattersalls.
