The line closure of the Haverhill - Halstead railway line.
The film begins with a shot of a notice: British Railway. Withdrawal of Passenger Train Service. Haverhill - Chappel & Wakes Colne via Halstead Line. Including complete closure of Birdbrook Station. The film shows shots of White Colne Station and of a dilapidated railway carriage that had served as a waiting room. An diesel rail car travels along the line. The indicator board shows that it is travelling to Cambridge. Gates are closed over a level crossing. The train continues. This section of film is shot from the train, showing the scenery as the train passes. There are interior scenes of the passenger coaches and of the driver's cab. The train pulls into Halstead Station. There are people and the Station Master on the platform. The train continues. The next shots are of the near derelict Birdbrook Station. The Station Master cleans an oil lamp. There are exterior and interior shots of a signal box. The train passes through calling at Birdbrook. The final stop is at the station at Haverhill.
