1950 , Rickinghall (Suffolk)

Filmed by Frederick Barker on his farms around Rickinghall, a record of the farm machinery in use at the time.

A horse-drawn hoe, then kale being loaded onto a horse-drawn trailer. Men and women work in the fields. There is a mechanical muck spreader, a baler with women working on the back, a straw lifter pulled by a tractor, a tractor-drawn binder, two self-propelled combines and scenes of threshing. A mole drainer is featured, followed by drilling, horse harrowing, a crawler pulling disc rollers and a sugar beet lifter. There is ploughing both by horse and by crawler tractor. Sugar beet is is loaded onto a lorry by hand. More threshing and ploughing follows, then scenes of potato lifting and a combine with baler behind. A Catchpole sugar beet harvester and some views of sheep end the film.
