Coronation Procession
1953 , Norwich (Norfolk)
Cat no. 909
The procession in Norwich celebrating the coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth II, filmed by local amateur film maker E.C. Le Grice.
A large model of the Royal Yacht Britannia has been built by Laurence Scott & Electromotors' apprentices in a shed at the rear of the Boulton and Paul works in Thorpe. It is driven out onto the Yarmouth Road and past Thorpe Railway Station onto Riverside Road towards the quay. RAC men have a cup of tea at a mobile van. The coronation procession is shown briefly on Gentlemen's Walk and then proceeding down Riverside Road near Foundry Bridge. The model yacht and other floats feature in the procession including Moys 'Real Coal Fire', British Rail, Wilmott's, Colman's and many others. Chocolates are thrown into the crowd from a Rowntree's Quality Street float.
