A promotional film of the official opening of Cliff Quay Electricity Generating Station.

The Cliff Quay Electricity Generating Station on the River Orwell was opened on 9th June, 1950. The British Electricity Authority collier, SS Cliff Quay arrives and officials go aboard. At a reception, Lord Citrine, the chairman of the Central Electricity Authority, speaks into a BBC microphone; he talks about the contractors and the value of the new station. Alderman Grimwade of Ipswich declares the station open and unveils a plaque. Mr Clinch, Controller of the Eastern Region, explains the generating station's output. Presentations are followed by a tour of the station: the turbines inside and the grid sub-station outside. Finally, the guests have tea and depart.
