The re-opening of the Regal Cinema, Cromer in 1986.
The re-opening of the Regal Cinema in 1986 as a community effort. Throughout there are shots of the town and interviews with community figures who contributed. Archive film of the town shows the Church. Sitting inside the cinema, Simon Perry tells the story of the cinema's re-opening. Alastair Gregory sits outside the Church and tells his part of the story, beginning in 1984, and about how they interviewed local people to discover what they wanted from their cinema. There are shots of the town centre and of people going about their daily business. There are shots of Gregory and Perry outside the National Westminster Bank with Brian Quidenham, the manager. Terry Nolan, Chief Executive of North Norfolk District Council, is interviewed sitting on the cliffs. He talks about the importance of a cinema to North Norfolk. Mike Matthews, another partner and professional caterer, talks about the cafe bar and other community facilities incorporated in the cinema. There are shots of Stan Prior, the Manager, outside the Cinema. Tony Webster, Chairperson of Cromer Town Council is interviewed by the life boat house on the end of Cromer Pier. He talks about other developments in the town. There are shots of the Church, the Pier, the lighthouse and the memorial to Henry Blogg. All of those who participated in the project are shown, including Bob Nemis and Mike Peart, the Architects. There is a shot of the builders, H. Bullen, at work on the cinema. The designers, Fletcher Priest are mentioned.
