An agricultural film on the breeding of the hybrid Hylete pig.
Horse racing footage illustrates the importance of selective breeding to animal rearing including the Hylete pig, a cross between a large white and a land race. Examples of Hylete herds throughout East Anglia, and the rearing methods used, follow: Captain Chute's operation at Halesworth in Suffolk, a herd dating from 1919; Bernard Partridge's Kelvedon herd at Weeley, Essex; Tony Doubleday, at Stanway, near Colchester; James Laurie's farm in Norfolk and the Redgrave Estates unit at Botesdale in Suffolk. Some of the farms use crated factory farming methods. Tucks' headquarters at Burston, Suffolk, and the experimental farm and mill are visited. The company manufactures feed for Hyletes. Weaning charts are produced following tests at Cambridge University.
