A newsreel featuring the building, by Francis Crittall, of two houses on the Clockhouse Way Estate in Braintree.

Francis Crittall, owner of Crittalls Manufacturing Co. Ltd., built many homes for his workers following the First World War. The film shows the busy building site at 156 and 158 Cressing Road, Clockhouse Way Estate: bricklayers, assorted workmen and interested on-lookers. The houses are constructed from large blocks. The sequence concludes with a shot of a completed house.

Background Information

Francis Crittall, the owner of Crittalls Manufacturing Co. Ltd, built many homes for his workers. These included the large estate which came to be known as 'Silver End'.
