Amateur footage of the Steward & Patterson Angling Championship, 18th October, 1953.

Shots of the coaches to show the home areas of the competitors. Many had come from as far away as Lincolnshire. The coaches are seen arriving along the lanes entering Ludham. There are shots of the officials and of the competitors standing around waiting for something to happen. Some drink tea, some are wearing medals, presumably won in previous championships. A map is on display to help competitors find their pegs. The draw takes place. There is a shot of the competitors lining up to receive their draw numbers and of picturesquely arranged tackle. After the draw, the competitors take up their positions. Over such a wide rural area this was not as easy as it may sound. There are lengthy scenes of the competitors trekking along country lanes and along river banks. some are taken to their pegs by a tourist pleasure boat. Eventually, everyone is in place and the Hon. Sec. of the competition, H.A. Neve, gives the signal to commence competition. This triggers a chain reaction as a gun is fired by various stewards along the bank. There are several long and close-up shots of the anglers and of maggots. The anglers fix their bait and eat sandwiches. River craft can be seen. The anglers are filmed from a motor launch as it passes along. These shots include a view of St. Benet's Abbey. At the end of the competition the catch is weighed. Mr. J.E. Morse, Chairman of the Company, gives a speech. he is accompanied by Mr. Donald Steward and MVB Riviere, Directors of the Company. Mrs. Morse presents the winners with mementoes and cheques. There is a shot of the memento to complete the film.
