Amateur film showing scenes of the Carter family.

Men fish from a punt and from the bank of the Fens or the Broads. A train passes over a railway bridge. A man poses alongside two cars and the catch is laid out for the camera. In Swaffham a crowd gather for the unveiling of the Swaffham town sign. There are some speeches. Men ride on a tractor through the snow to where a car is stuck in a snowdrift. The car is dug out. There are shots of the family in their garden. A man measures a wooden chest. The children play on a rocking horse. A shot from a railway carriage shows an aeroplane flying overhead. There are beach scenes showing the family in the sea. Further family shots give way to scenes of the family emerging from a church after a Christening and there are close-up shots of the baby. Finally a Roman Catholic Pilgrimage procession in Walsingham, for the feast of Corpus Christi. This starts out from East Barsham Manor.

Background Information

The town sign at Swaffham was made by Harry Carter, who was the art master at Hammonds School, Swaffham. He made several town and village signs in Norfolk. He died in June 1983. The BBC made a 30 minute programme about Harry Carter
