A film of Essex International Youth Camp, 1966

The film begins in West Berlin and introduces the viewer to a Hungarian girl living in Germany. A laboratory worker, she has won the trip as a prize in an essay competition, United Europe. She packs her suitcase and then catches her flight at Templehof Airport. At Mersea, she meets a friend from camp three years earlier. She deposits her valuables in the office and is shown to her tent. Breakfast is taken in the marquee in the morning. There are shots of various sports and games, including netball and archery. Campers offer some of the traditional dances from their countries. They go riding, trampolining and canoeing and sailing off Mersea. There are shots of a an action painter, swimming and water polo, a tug of war and running races. The campers have a group photograph taken.The film shows a display by police dogs and then shots of a visit to London. These show policemen in London and the Thames with sightseeing boats. The campers visit Cambridge and go punting along the backs, seeing Kings College Chapel. Back at the camp the daily chores are seen, including kitchen duties and the staff in their offices. The film finishes with more sports and games, music groups and couples dancing.
