Litter Lout
1958 , Essex (County)
Cat no. 561
Public information film concerned with the hazards of littering.
The commentary to this film is contained in the song, 'Litter Louting' sung throughout. In the opening sequences a pied piper plays a recorder and calls people from various occupations in to the countryside. A man leaves his desk, a woman leaves the kitchen sink and children leave the schoolroom. They all catch a bus into the countryside. Once there they ignore all bins to the annoyance of a dustman who follows them around with a corporation dust cart. The people throw their bus tickets on the ground, to the annoyance of the dustman. Children eat ice lollies and then throw the sticks of the ground. They are harangued by the dustman. A family picnicking discards all the wrappers. They are pursued by the angry dustman. At the end of the film the pied piper plays alone surrounded by litter. The song lyrics read: But who cares for the Countryside We won't be here tomorrow. The dustman decides that he has had enough and puts the litter louting pied piper into his dust cart.
