Five films showing the Lady Yacht Club Regattas between 1952 and 1956.

Compilation film. Five short films that have been joined. Each shows scenes from a Lady Yacht Club Regatta between 1952 and 1956. In the first film dinghies and then yachts tacking, reaching, gibing and running before the wind at various stages of the regatta. The weather is calm and sunny and sailing is particularly serene. In the next film the weather is less clement and the yachtsmen are having to work harder. There are some shots of the people watching. These include two young girls on a boat with their dog and two older men who pose with a shot gun. This proves to be the finishing gun which is fired as the yachts cross the line. In the third film there are similar scenes but a strong wind is blowing, making for some exciting racing. The fourth film shows similar racing scenes again although there are also shots of lug-sail dinghies racing. In the last film, after a blustery start, the yachts become becalmed.

Background Information

These sailing yachts were built by Herbert Woods of Potter Heigham and each boat had the suffix “Lady.” i.e. “Perfect Lady.”
