Two boys training to join the R.A.F.

The film opens with two boys killing time in the local park. One of them picks up an old newspaper and reads the headline; A.T.C. 'BOYS' D.F.M. IN FIRST ACTION. 'Veteran' of 23 wins D.S.O. The boys are inspired to join their local A.T.C. The film follows them up to the time they join the R.A.F. as aircraftsmen. At the headquarters of 1474 B Flight they sign up and collect their uniforms. The newcomers experience their first drill. The next scenes shows the drill with the boys as experienced recruits. They take part in a public appearance that includes contingents from other organisations, including the Red Cross. Classroom scenes follow. These include mathematics classes with a civilian tutor explaining logarithms. They have classes in aircraft recognition and learn about electricity and radio, they are also taught signalling. A female civilian instructor teaches about morse code and the boys are seen signalling with an Aldis lamp. Old A.T.C. recruits visit to talk to the boys. They also build model aircraft and some of their efforts are shown on film. Outdoor shots show a P.T. session featuring gymnastics, running and boxing. Recreational scenes include diving, swimming and football. The group visit the gliding school, they work on a glider that is then towed off. They undertake training sessions. The glider is towed along the ground before taking first short and the high hops. The commanding officer demonstrates gliding properly. The final scenes are of boys on the railway platform. A steam train enters the station and the boys leave to join the R.A.F. Their A.T.C. chums bid them goodbye.
