Interview with Sir Robert Bignold about the new offices for Norwich Union.

This film begins with mute shots showing Sir Robert Bignold unveiling a plaque at the opening ceremony of the new Head Office building of the Norwich Union. Sir Robert is interviewed in the Observation Room of the new building. He is asked about the choice of design and admits that they decided to contrast buildings around and erect a building that showed the best of present architectural styles. He estimates that the new building cost over £1.25m. Asked about new ideas for the interior, he explains that there is to be a specially constructed computer floor. Sir Robert is asked why the Norwich Union remains in Norwich. He outlines previous plans to move to London and quotes his grandfather, Thomas Bignold. "I'd rather be a King in East Anglia than a Prince in the Metropolis." Sir Robert also thinks that Norwich is better for staff and that it makes economic sense. He finds that in the new world tradition impresses people; essentially that Norwich Union remaining in Norwich brings in business.
