A short film of Princess Mary visiting the Jenny Lind Hospital

The film consists of four shots. These show Princess Mary and other dignitaries, including the Matron, on a platform outside the Jenny Lind Hospital. Other dignitaries included The Bishop of Norwich, The Lord Mayor of Norwich, the Town Clerk, The Sheriff, Mr. Russell Colman and Mr. G.E. Woolsey, chairman of the Management Committee. Also present was Mrs. Raymond Maude, the daughter of Jenny Lind. A line of girls, beginning with older girls in school uniform and continuing with younger girls in white dresses, makes a presentation and curtsy to Princess Mary. At the end of the film an elderly gentleman is seen helping one of the younger girls off the platform

Background Information

The children in this film are presented purses of money raised by various children and schools to Princess Mary. HRH Princess Mary was the eldest daughter of HM King George V. She became the Princess Royal. The foundation stone of the out-patients department of the Jenny Lind Hospital was laid in 1928 by Mrs. Raymond Maude, daughter of the singer. The building was designed by Edward Boardman. After the ceremony, Princess Mary went on to lunch at Woodbastwick Hall and to open Woodrow Pilling Park in Thorpe. She completed the day at Crown Point where she inspected detachments of the British Red Cross of which she was Commandant-in-Chief.
