The Essex show 1935 which included the Manningtree iLifeboat Carnival and Fete.
The film opens with shots of the Essex Show, c. 1935. Jersey cattle parade in the ring and there are some shots of show jumping. Riders on horseback are featured from the Tendering Show of the same year. They are picking up tent pegs with a lance. The main subject of the film is the Manningtree Lifeboat Carnival and Fete. Film of the Carnival shows the floats parading through the streets of Manningtree. Firstly, headed by a float decorated as a replica of the Cork light vessel, the floats travel west along Manningtree High Street. This is followed by shots of the procession of decorated vehicles travelling east, outside the Skinners' Arms. Fete scenes at Mistley Place include brief shots of a bowls match, a little girl giving a ballet demonstration and a tug-of-war. These scenes are intercut with crowd shots showing spectators on their best clothes and hats. There is a gymnastics display by the 1st Bradfield Scouts (their name is on the side of their vaulting horse), and another tug-of-war. In the last shot there is a man on the right hand taking a photograph.
