The various activites that take place at Hamilton Road Youth Centre.
This film shows the wide range of activities available for young people at the Hamilton Road Youth Centre. There are some excellent ideas behind this film and experiments in 'trick' techniques. The captions also show imagination. The captions for Film Club are shown in reverse sequence, as is film of a boy eating a 'Taxi' bar. The shots of the actual club are very dark. Some of the classes show a mix of gender for traditional 'girls' or 'boys' activities. Boys are seen in the shorthand class. There are interesting shots from the canteen, showing older style kitchen apparatus. There is a 'shadow' scene in a sequence showing rock and roll dancing, and a ballroom dancing sequence, although most of the shots seem to concentrate on the girls bottoms and legs. A maths class is shown and then a woodwork class where the girls are taking the opportunity to join the boys. Table tennis, a house committee meeting and a football match feature. Boys join girls in the cooking class, where cakes are prepared and then eaten! However, they do not feature in typewriting. After an English class, the film ends with sequences from PE, body building and athletics.
