Drama about the kidnapping of the Colchester Carnival Queen.

A drama about the kidnapping of the Colchester Carnival Queen, filmed by the Colchester Cine Club and intercut with footage of the carnival. The film opens with a young couple sitting on a garden seat. The young man tries to persuade the heroine of the story, Betty, to enter the competition for the Carnival Queen. He enlists the help of her aunt, who is successful. A shot of a sign reveals the significance of the competition - it is to raise money for the Essex County Hospital. The entrants' parade before the judges dressed in summer dresses. Betty wins - leaving the girl in second place seething with resentment. The day of the Carnival. A driver is dispatched to fetch Betty. The othergirl is seen paying some hoodlums to kidnap her rival. They intercept the car, tie up the driver and fetch Betty themselves. Auntie sees them trying to overpower her in a field, threatens to faint, but runs to fetch boyfriend instead. The boyfriend fights the kidnappers, lays them out, and brings Betty back to take her place in the Carnival. There are scenes of the Carnival that include marching bands, floats and people in fancy dress. The film ends with the wedding of betty and her rescuer. The couple are shown leaving the church.
