The advantages of using student accommodation at the University of Essex as a base for exploring East Anglia.
The advantages of using the University of Essex student accommodation in the summer months as a base to explore East Anglia. The film opens with a shot of Liverpool Street Station with people getting on to the train and heading for Colchester. They are given an information booklet about the University and are heard talking about Colchester. This is intercut with the Dana Regina arriving and docking at Parkeston Quay. The position of the University in Wivenhoe Park is well documented, as are the interiors of the self-catering flats, there and at Forest Road nearby. Both families and elderly visitors are highlighted to show Colchester and the University of Essex as a suitable base for both. The campus facilities are highlighted followed by a sequence devoted to Colchester and the surrounding countryside. Scenes from Colchester include interior and exterior shots of the castle and museum. Countryside shots include sailing at Brightlingsea; an aerial view of Clacton Pier and scenes of families enjoying the amusements there; Stoke-by-Nayland with interior and exterior shots of St. Mary's Church, a street and a public house. Colchester Zoo is visited as well as Dedham, where there are views of the river along the Dedham Vale and in the Essex Rose coffee shop in the High Street. Finally there is a sequence of the Colchester Military Tattoo which mixes into a montage of night life.
