Flood Damage Repairs

1953 , Aldeburgh and Orford (Suffolk)

Clearing up after East Coast floods.

The film shows the external damage done by the floods of 1953. Mud is piled up against the fronts of houses on the front at Aldeburgh. The film moves on to scenes of flood damage at Orford. (A shot of a signpost is used for identification.) The clearing up process is shown. Men are working by hand, shovelling mud into sacks to create makeshift sea defences. The film shows the progress they have made. Some of the men shown were Mr. Whitwell's employees.
