Fancy dress and fun at Cambridge Rag Week fundraising.

The film opens and closes with the Associated British Pathe and Pathe News logos. In the spirit of silliness, typical of Cambridge Rag Week, men parade dressed as historical Romans with spears and shields. King’s College is seen from the river. Floats pass Cambridge market place, the mayor and civic dignitaries and a large bunch of balloons as watchers put donations in collecting tins. On King’s Parade men are dressed as women. Frankenstein’s monster emerges from a coffin. Costumes include Native American-style headdress and men in grass skirts performing a haka. One float carries musicians in black face make-up, another a model of a V2 rocket. A man dressed like Lawrence of Arabia collects donations in a chamber pot. A unicyclist weaves between cars. The rocket stands surrounded by scaffolding as a large crowd awaits blast off. The rocket falls smoking and the fire is extinguished.
