BBC Look East report; the Eastern Electricity Board experiment with a helicopter to survey overhead electricity lines.
A helicopter hovers close to an electricity pole followed by a view from a flying helicopter that traces the overhead electricity cables from pole to pole. An Eastern Electricity Board representative, Mr [Toolbrook], explains that the helicopter has been borrowed [from the South Western Electricty Board] as part of a trial. Employing a helicopter would allow a trained engineer to inspect the overhead lines more closely to detect any maintenance needed. The scheme would cost on average £35 per hour. A helicopter takes off and hovers close to electricity cables. An Eastern Electricity lorry pulls up at the site of a pole and an employee climbs to the top. This film was transmitted to accompany a BBC East news story as part of the regional news broadcast.
