BBC Look East report on the bird sanctuary that provides a temporary home for oil-covered swans.

Oil-covered swans are rescued by the RSPCA and taken to Mrs Gooding, who provides a temporary home for the swans. Interview with Mrs Gooding, in her kitchen, as she washes oil from the swan. The process can take up to three weeks, and some of the swans may die anyway from ingesting the oil. The cleaned swans can be released back onto the river or rehomed with other people. On average, seven swans are brought to her every week by the RSPCA, in addition she provides a sanctuary for other bird species. Interview with Mr Locke, Senior Inspector, for the RSPCA in East Suffolk. Mr Locke says that unfortunately many of the severely injured birds have to be put down, although thankfully, due to people like Mrs Gooding, who take the time to care for the birds, many will survive. This film was transmitted to accompany a BBC East news story as part of the regional news broadcast.
