Woman Lorry Driver and Woman Roadsweep

1966

A BBC Look East News story of two female workers in traditionally male roles.

A female lorry driver pulls her lorry to a stop before dumping her load of dirt and rock on the road. Mrs Arch a female roadsweeper tells an interviewer about all the types of rubbish that can fall off the backs of lorries, even in a quiet village like hers. School children also provide Mrs Arch with much of her work, leaving litter round the bus shelters. She works five days a week and for the same money as her male counterparts. Mrs Arch's duties include all littler collection, unblocking drains, sweeping paths and shovelling snow.
